- Uncharted 5 Elena Fisher is a fan-favorite returning-character question — she is Nathan Drake's wife and Cassie's mother.
- Emily Rose has voiced Elena in every mainline entry since 2007's Drake's Fortune.
- Cameo is the most likely role: Elena's arc closed in Uncharted 4's epilogue, but the family connection to Cassie keeps the door open.
- Best evidence: Uncharted 4's ending deliberately frames Elena and Nathan's past for Cassie to discover, setting up a next-generation handoff.
- No official confirmation exists yet — Naughty Dog has not announced Uncharted 5.
Who Is Elena Fisher in the Uncharted Series?
Elena Fisher is one of the cornerstones of the Uncharted franchise and, alongside Nathan Drake and Sully, one of only three characters to appear in every mainline numbered entry. Introduced in 2007's Uncharted: Drake's Fortune as a freelance journalist filming a documentary about Nate's hunt for El Dorado, Elena quickly evolved from a tagalong reporter into the series' emotional core — and eventually Nathan's wife.
Across four mainline games, Elena's role grew from skeptical documentarian (Drake's Fortune), to trusted ally and love interest (Among Thieves), to estranged partner reconciled at the end of Drake's Deception, and finally to settled wife and mother in A Thief's End. Her grounded morality — she repeatedly calls out Nate's obsession with treasure and lies — is what gives the series its dramatic weight.
| Game | Year | Elena's Role | Key Story Beat |
|---|---|---|---|
| Drake's Fortune | 2007 | Documentary journalist | Films Nate's El Dorado expedition, first love interest |
| Among Thieves | 2008 | Journalist ally | Reunites with Nate in Nepal, jealousy triangle with Chloe |
| Drake's Deception | 2011 | Estranged wife | Separated from Nate, reconciles after the Syria chapter |
| A Thief's End | 2016 | Wife and partner | Saves Nate on Libertalia, epilogue with daughter Cassie |
| The Lost Legacy | 2017 | Not featured | Story focuses on Chloe and Nadine instead |
Elena is played by Emily Rose through full performance capture — voice, body, and facial acting. Rose has consistently expressed affection for the role in interviews over the years, which is part of why fans keep hoping she'll be asked back for a future entry.
Elena's Ending in Uncharted 4: Why It Matters for Uncharted 5
Uncharted 4: A Thief's End gives Elena the most complete arc of any character in the series. During the Libertalia chapter, she rescues a wounded Nathan after Sam's apparent death, and the two finally operate as true partners through the finale. The epilogue then jumps forward roughly fifteen years: Elena and Nate are married, running a salvage company, and raising their teenage daughter, Cassie.
This epilogue is the single most important piece of evidence for any Uncharted 5 story theory. Naughty Dog deliberately staged it so that Cassie discovers her parents' treasure-hunting past — maps, relics, and Nate's old journal laid out around the family home — while Elena and Nate gently begin to tell her the truth.
Three storytelling signals stand out:
- The handoff framing: Cassie discovering the relics mirrors how Nate inherited Francis Drake's journal. It's a classic torch-passing setup.
- Elena as storyteller: Elena is the one who confirms "all of it" was real, positioning her as the keeper of the family legend.
- The open timeline: With the epilogue set years later, a new game could follow adult Cassie with Elena and Nate alive in the background.
Naughty Dog has not officially announced Uncharted 5. The studio's announced project is Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, and leadership has said only that Uncharted could return "someday" with a story worth telling. Everything about Elena's future role remains theory until an official reveal.
Elena's Return Odds in Uncharted 5: Scenarios Ranked
How likely is Elena to appear if Uncharted 5 actually happens? Based on how the series handled past handoffs — Sully mentoring Nate, Chloe carrying The Lost Legacy without Nate — we can rank the realistic scenarios.
| Scenario | Likelihood | Elena's Role | Why It Fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cassie-led game, parents cameo | High | Brief but emotional appearance | Directly follows Uncharted 4's epilogue setup |
| Mentor/aid figure | Medium | Remote support, "guy in the chair" | Her journalist skillset suits research and intel |
| Co-lead with Nathan | Low | Playable or partner segments | Both arcs are considered closed by Naughty Dog |
| Absent entirely | Low | Mentioned only in dialogue | Possible if the game follows Chloe/Nadine instead |
The Cassie Theory
- Most popular fan theory
- Cassie takes the lead as a new-generation Drake
- Elena appears as the protective mother
- Epilogue directly supports this path
The Mentor Path
- Elena guides via journalism contacts
- Keeps her involved without field action
- Mirrors the Sully mentor archetype
The Chloe Route
- Story continues from The Lost Legacy
- Chloe and Nadine headline
- Elena limited to mentions or a single scene
The Lost Legacy already proved Uncharted can succeed without any Drake family member in the lead. That gives Naughty Dog (or whichever PlayStation Studios team might inherit the franchise, as industry reports have speculated) flexibility — Elena's return is a creative choice, not a requirement.
Elena Across the Franchise: Voice Actress and Adaptations
Emily Rose has voiced Elena in all four mainline games and remains the definitive performer of the role. Outside the games, the character appeared in the 2022 Uncharted film only in the faintest way — the movie told a young Nathan Drake origin story, so Elena (like most established series characters besides Sully) had no substantial presence. The film's post-credits tease, however, points toward characters game fans will recognize if a sequel moves forward.
| Medium | Title | Year | Elena's Presence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Video game | Drake's Fortune | 2007 | Full co-starring role, voiced by Emily Rose |
| Video game | Among Thieves | 2008 | Major supporting role, Nepal chapters |
| Video game | Drake's Deception | 2011 | Supporting role, key story resolution |
| Video game | A Thief's End | 2016 | Full co-starring role, epilogue family scenes |
| Remaster | Legacy of Thieves Collection | 2022 | A Thief's End remastered for PS5 and PC |
| Film | Uncharted (movie) | 2022 | Not featured; story predates her introduction |

Revisit Among Thieves, Chapter 16-20
The Nepal reunion and hotel tower escape are her best action showcase across the series.
Finish Drake's Deception
The chapter where Elena rescues Nate after the Rub' al Khali desert crossing pays off their whole on-and-off relationship.
Replay A Thief's End epilogue
The beach-house scene with Cassie is the canonical endpoint for Elena — and the clearest seed for any Uncharted 5 story.

FAQ
Q: Will Elena Fisher be in Uncharted 5?
There is no official answer because Naughty Dog has not announced Uncharted 5 at all. If the game happens, a cameo alongside Nathan — likely connected to their daughter Cassie as the new protagonist — is the most widely expected scenario based on Uncharted 4's epilogue.
Q: Who voices Elena in the Uncharted games?
Emily Rose has performed Elena through full performance capture in all four mainline games, from Drake's Fortune in 2007 through A Thief's End in 2016 and its PS5/PC remaster in the Legacy of Thieves Collection.
Q: Is Elena Cassie's mother?
Yes. The epilogue of Uncharted 4: A Thief's End confirms Elena and Nathan Drake are married and raising their teenage daughter Cassie, whose discovery of her parents' relics fuels the most popular Uncharted 5 story theory.
Q: Does Elena appear in the Uncharted movie?
No. The 2022 film starring Tom Holland tells a young Nathan Drake origin story set before the games, so Elena is not part of its cast. A film sequel could introduce her, but nothing has been confirmed.
