- Uncharted 5 is NOT officially confirmed by Naughty Dog or Sony as of October 2026
- Studio stance: Leadership says the series "is not off the table" but has no announced sequel
- Top rumor: Cassie Drake as the new protagonist leads fan speculation
- Key wildcard: A different PlayStation Studios team may develop the next entry
- Realistic window: Rumors point to a 2029 release at the earliest
Is Uncharted 5 Confirmed? The Official Status
The short answer: no, Uncharted 5 has not been confirmed. Despite constant fan demand and recurring insider chatter, Naughty Dog has never announced a fifth mainline Uncharted game. The studio's current announced project is the new IP Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, which means any Uncharted 5 release remains years away even if development began today.
That said, "not confirmed" does not mean "ruled out." Naughty Dog leadership has repeatedly stated that the Uncharted universe is beloved internally and could return — but only when the studio (or a partner studio) has a story genuinely worth telling, rather than a sequel made purely for commercial reasons.
Video Highlights:
- No official Uncharted 5 trailer or teaser exists from Naughty Dog or Sony
- Uncharted 4: A Thief's End deliberately closed Nathan Drake's story
- The Legacy of Thieves Collection (2022–2023) keeps the franchise active on PS5 and PC
- All circulating "confirmations" trace back to rumors, not announcements
| Status Item | Detail | Source Type |
|---|---|---|
| Official announcement | None as of Oct 2026 | Official |
| Naughty Dog's current project | Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet | Official |
| Studio commentary | Series "not off the table" | Developer interviews |

Any YouTube trailer, Steam page, or pre-order listing claiming to be Uncharted 5 is fan-made or fraudulent. Sony and Naughty Dog have published no such materials, and no official channels have teased an announcement event.
The Biggest Uncharted 5 Rumors Ranked by Credibility
The community never stops theorizing, and several rumors have persisted long enough to earn serious attention. Here are the four most widely discussed, with our read on each.
Cassie Drake as Protagonist
- Most popular theory overall
- Uncharted 4's epilogue deliberately set up Cassie discovering her parents' past
- Widely read as a passing of the torch
- Insider chatter repeatedly points to a next-generation Drake
Another Studio Takes Over
- Reports suggest Sony may assign a sister PlayStation Studios team
- Naughty Dog stays involved in an oversight role
- Sony has a track record of sharing flagship franchises
Nathan Drake Cameo Only
- Nolan North remains attached to the character
- Expect a mentor figure, not a playable lead
- A Thief's End closed his arc definitively
Shelved Internal Prototype
- Reports indicate a new Uncharted concept was pitched post-Uncharted 4
- The team pivoted to The Last of Us Part II and new IP instead
- Suggests willingness exists, timing did not
| Rumor | Credibility | Supporting Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Cassie Drake leads | High (as a theory) | Epilogue setup, consistent insider talk |
| Different developer | Medium | Sony's cross-studio franchise history |
| Nate cameo, not lead | Medium | Story closure + actor availability |
| Shelved prototype | Medium | Industry reporting on post-U4 planning |
Treat any single "leak" as noise. Give weight only to claims corroborated by multiple established outlets (IGN, GameSpot, Eurogamer) or repeated by separate insiders over time — that pattern is what lifted the Cassie Drake theory to the top.
Release Date Outlook & Platform Predictions
Because Naughty Dog is committed to Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, a realistic Uncharted 5 timeline runs long. Community estimates cluster around a 2029 release window, assuming development ramps up after Naughty Dog's current project ships.
| Factor | Impact on Timeline | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Intergalactic development | Pushes start date back | Naughty Dog's full focus until ship |
| Possible partner studio | Could accelerate | Parallel development under ND oversight |
| PS5 lifecycle | Mid-to-late gen or PS6 era | 2029 sits near a hardware transition |
| Legacy of Thieves on PC | Builds audience now | Franchise stays commercially active |
Platform-wise, expect PS5 exclusivity at launch if it arrives before the next hardware generation, with a PC port following the Legacy of Thieves pattern. The 2022 PS5 remaster and 2023 PC release of Uncharted 4 and The Lost Legacy proved Sony sees cross-platform value in the brand.
Follow the official Naughty Dog site and the PlayStation Blog for any announcement. Historical PlayStation reveals tend to land in showcase events or State of Play broadcasts, not standalone press releases.
How to Prepare While You Wait: A Step-by-Step Plan
Rather than refreshing rumor threads, use the wait productively. This roadmap gets you fully caught up — story, trophies, and all — so you're ready the day Uncharted 5 is real.
Play the Saga in Story Order
Start with Drake's Fortune (2007), then Among Thieves (2008) and Drake's Deception (2011). On PS5 and PC, the Legacy of Thieves Collection covers Uncharted 4 and The Lost Legacy in remastered form.
Add the Optional Entries
Golden Abyss (PS Vita) is a solid portable prequel for completists, and the 2022 Uncharted film with Tom Holland offers an origin-story companion piece.
Replay the Cassie Epilogue
The Uncharted 4 epilogue is the single most important scene for future-story speculation. Note every detail Cassie discovers in Nate's attic office.
Clear Both Platinums
Follow the efficient route: story run on Moderate, collectible sweep via chapter select, combat trophies via encounter select, then a Crushing playthrough for each game.
Track Credible News Sources
Bookmark the PlayStation Blog, Naughty Dog's official site, and the r/uncharted community for verified updates.
Treasure progress saves instantly in both games — quit to menu after each find instead of finishing a chapter. Encounter select also lets you knock out combat trophies in minutes rather than replaying full chapters.
Who Could Return: Character Odds
| Character | Voice Actor | Uncharted 5 Outlook |
|---|---|---|
| Nathan Drake | Nolan North | Cameo/mentor at most — story is closed |
| Sully | Richard McGonagle | Strong return candidate as connective mentor |
| Chloe Frazer | Claudia Black | Natural lead or co-star after Lost Legacy |
| Elena Fisher | Emily Rose | Possible cameo beside Nathan |
| Sam Drake | Troy Baker | Open fate — protagonist wildcard |
| Nadine Ross | Laura Bailey | Popular joint return with Chloe |
