Uncharted 5 News: Where the Franchise Stands in 2026
Uncharted 5 news in 2026 remains a story of cautious optimism. Naughty Dog has not confirmed a fifth mainline entry, but the studio's leadership has repeatedly said the Uncharted universe is beloved and could return — as long as there is a story worth telling. Meanwhile, the franchise has stayed active through the Legacy of Thieves Collection on PS5 and PC, the 2022 Hollywood film, and a community that never stops theorizing.
While there is no official Uncharted 5 trailer, the franchise's last big cinematic showcase remains the Uncharted 4 E3 2015 trailer — the tone benchmark any sequel will be measured against.
Video Highlights:
- The E3 2015 trailer that defined the series' cinematic style
- Nathan and Sam's brotherhood at the heart of A Thief's End
- Set-piece spectacle any future entry must live up to
Here is a quick snapshot of the current situation:
| Topic | Status | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Official announcement | Not confirmed | No trailer, date, or title from Naughty Dog |
| Naughty Dog's current project | Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet | Announced at The Game Awards 2024 |
| Series availability | PS5, PC, PS4 | Legacy of Thieves Collection |
| Leading rumor | Cassie Drake as protagonist | Based on Uncharted 4's epilogue |
| Predicted release window | Around 2029 | Community/industry estimate, not official |
Any "Uncharted 5 gameplay leak" or pre-order listing circulating online in 2026 should be treated with heavy skepticism. Sony and Naughty Dog have published nothing official, and fake trailers regularly use AI-generated or re-edited footage.

Top Uncharted 5 Rumors & Leaks Ranked by Credibility
The rumor mill around Uncharted 5 has produced four recurring narratives. Here they are, ranked by how consistently they have circulated across credible industry reporting from outlets like IGN, GameSpot, and Eurogamer.
| Rumor | Credibility | Summary |
|---|---|---|
| Cassie Drake as new protagonist | High (fan consensus) | Uncharted 4's epilogue reads as a torch-passing setup |
| Another PlayStation studio developing | Medium | Sony often shares franchises across studios |
| Nathan Drake mentor cameo | Medium | Nolan North remains attached to the character |
| Shelved internal prototype | Low-Medium | Reports suggest an Uncharted pitch was explored post-U4 |
The Cassie Drake Theory
The single most discussed piece of Uncharted 5 news speculation: Uncharted 4's epilogue shows Cassie discovering her parents' treasure-hunting past — journals, artifacts, and maps on display in the Drake household. Many fans read this as deliberate groundwork for a new-generation lead.
The Studio Handoff Scenario
With Naughty Dog committed to Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, industry insiders have long speculated Sony could assign a sister studio to helm Uncharted 5 under Naughty Dog oversight — a model Sony has used across its biggest franchises before.
Weight rumors by source: named journalists at major outlets carry more weight than anonymous forum posts. Treat any rumor without a track record behind it as entertainment, not news.
Who Could Return: Character Outlook
Cast speculation drives a huge share of Uncharted 5 news interest. Based on story arcs and actor availability, here is how the main cast's return odds stack up.
| Character | Voice Actor | U5 Return Odds | Likely Role |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chloe Frazer | Claudia Black | Strong | Lead or co-lead after The Lost Legacy |
| Sully | Richard McGonagle | Strong | Mentor bridge to a new protagonist |
| Nadine Ross | Laura Bailey | Good | Chloe's fan-favorite partner |
| Sam Drake | Troy Baker | Possible | Open-ended fate, wildcard option |
| Nathan Drake | Nolan North | Cameo only | Supporting/mentor figure at most |
| Elena Fisher | Emily Rose | Cameo only | Family scene alongside Nathan |
Chloe and Nadine already proved Uncharted can thrive without Nathan Drake. That standalone success is the strongest in-franchise evidence that a new-lead Uncharted 5 can work.

Uncharted 5 News FAQ
Q: Has Naughty Dog officially announced Uncharted 5?
No. As of October 2026, neither Naughty Dog nor Sony has confirmed Uncharted 5 is in development. The studio's announced project is Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, and leadership has only said the Uncharted universe could return when there is a story worth telling.
Q: When is the predicted Uncharted 5 release date?
There is no official date. Community and industry estimates place a realistic window around 2029, given Naughty Dog's current workload — and the possibility that another PlayStation Studios team develops it.
Q: Will Nathan Drake be in Uncharted 5?
Most speculation suggests at most a cameo or mentor role. Uncharted 4: A Thief's End definitively closed Nathan's story, and rumors consistently point to Cassie Drake or Chloe Frazer leading a new entry.
Q: Where can I play the Uncharted series right now?
On PS5 and PC via the Legacy of Thieves Collection (Uncharted 4 plus The Lost Legacy), and on PS4 via the Nathan Drake Collection covering the first three games. The series is also periodically featured in PlayStation Plus tiers.
